ICONIC STACKS TO DISAPPEAR
The Central Coast’s iconic Munmorah Power Station stacks will disappear for good this weekend, when a controlled detonation is carried out.
The levelling of the two 155 metre chimney’s is the next stage in the removal of the former power plant.
The structure will be completely gone by August next year, and the site will be re-purposed for community use.
In its heyday, the station supplied up to 40 per cent of the state’s energy.
It was retired in 2012 due to high running costs.
