Police are searching for a man believed to be involved in two armed robberies in Newcastle and a stabbing in Sydney.

The first robbery occurred last night at about 9.45 last night, when a vehicle pulled into a service station on Maitland Road Sandgate.

An employee thought the behaviour of the man, who was filling up with fuel, was suspicious so she left the store and walked towards the driver.

As she walked back into the store the driver followed her and threatened her and smashed the cash register.

About 15 minutes later a man walked into another service station in the area and jumped the counter while demanding cash.

Police attempted to pursue the black BMW however the driver managed to evade police.

The man of interest is also being hunted over a triple stabbing at a Sydney gym, at about 8pm yesterday.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, about 168cm tall, he has a full beard and aged in his mid to late twenties. At the time of the robberies he was wearing black shorts and a light coloured T-shirt.
