MAN IN AN INDUCED COMA FOLLOWING ALLEGED HOME INVASION

A man is under police guard, and in an induced coma, following an alleged aggravated break and enter on the state’s Mid North Coast.

Police were called to a unit on Little Rudder Street, East Kempsey on Sunday night, following reports that a man armed with a weapon was trying to force entry into the unit.

He fled when police arrived.

Shortly after, a 28-year-old man was seen in the Macleay river, holding on to a pylon and calling for help before disappearing into the water.

Police entered the water and brought the man back to land, where they provided medical assistance.

He was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital where he was placed in an induced coma.
