Tamworth-born rugby star Gemma Etheridge has signed up as the Ambassador for the University of New England’s women’s National Sevens team.
The Rio gold medallist still has links to the region, with her parents based in Walcha.
It’ll be a non-playing role, after the 30 year old announced her retirement in November.
The women’s team will be known as the Lions, mirroring the New England zone’s representative sides.
Former Queensland Rugby development officer, and current SportUNE staff member, Tom Bower will be the coach.
