Newcastle small business advocate, Kristen Keegan, is being remembered as a driven spokesperson for the region, after she lost her fight to brain cancer.
The former CEO of the Hunter Business Chamber (HBC) was also announced as CEO of Dantia, Lake Macquarie City Council’s economic development arm in the middle of last year.
Ms Keegan was the first female chief executive of HBC and was outspoken on Newcastle issues including inner city redevelopment, the light rail debate and securing funding for the city.
The 46-year-old had a short battle with an aggressive brain cancer and passed away yesterday morning.
Ms Keegan’s close friend and former colleague at HBC, Anita Hugo, says she was one of a kind.
“She was an inspirational leader whose dedication has left a legacy of great growth and promise for generations to come.
“Kristen was fiercely loyal and determined. She lived big and we were blessed to be part of her adventure,” she said.
Meantime, Mayor of Muswellbrook, Martin Rush has highlighted the Denman born’s efforts in the Upper Hunter.
“Her influence, advice and passionate advocacy made a material difference to the landscape of the Upper Hunter economy and its liveability”, he said.
