DISTRACTION CAUSES FATAL MOTORBIKE CRASH

A 55-year-old man from Rainbow Flat will face Taree Local Court next month, after a fatal motorcycle crash at Hallidays Point last night.

A 60-year-old Failford man was riding his motorbike along Blackhead Road, when he was hit by a four wheel drive just before 6 o’clock.

“It would appear that the driver of the four wheel drive was temporarily distracted by a lighted cigarette, this has caused him to swerve into the wrong hand side of the road and then come into collision with the motorcyclist travelling in the opposite direction,” Chief Inspector Tony Power from Manning-Great Lakes Police said.

The driver of the car is facing a number of charges, including dangerous driving occasioning death and low range PCA.
