While Tamworth Regional Council agrees there’s a need, the project is on the long-term priority list.

  1. Is giving the community services too hard? Not the attitude. Rate payers don’t consider paying their rates too hard. Yes it should have been done by now. Other towns with smaller populations have an all year round facilities, why is it too hard for Tamworth?? What are the other interests that keep stopping this from happening? Our city should not be disadvantaged or children put at risk for it being too hard to establish.

  2. It is amazing to think that Tamworth still doesn’t have a public indoor swimming facility. Particularly with the size of our population. Come on TRC we need it!

  3. Col Murray your comments imply that both swimming clubs wouldn’t be happy to sell off both pools for one indoor aquatic centre. I think you are very mistaken. It’s not just about somewhere to train it’s about having the best facilities for competitions and for other sports such as water polo. It’s time for a public indoor aquatic centre for all to access!

  4. Somewhat concerning to hear the words of the City’s elected leader stating ” if it were easy then we would of been done by now”
Here is a Council who states they are leaders in Local Govt, who have built indoor sporting centres, AELECs, upgraded airports, livestock facilities etc etc… yet off the back of a multitude of studies, and “independent” feasibility reports and plans are unable to work out how to to make it happen??

  5. Tamworth definately needs a new aquatic facility. Swimming clubs aside it is a vital piece of infrastructure that can be utilised by the entire community for years to come.
It is certainly an expensive project but the longer we wait the more expensive it will be, at the same time we are spending money on patching the current facilities which are out of date and inefficient.

  6. TRC want Tamworth to be a Centre of Sporting Excellence yet we do not have a year-round/indoor aquatic facility. Tamworth is home to multiple swim clubs and water polo clubs and can attract large numbers to carnivals like the one hosted by Tamworth City Swim Club last weekend (almost 1800 entries). Imagine what sort of events Tamworth could attract if we had a state of the art aquatic facility! Come on TRC, let’s turn words into action and make a priority that has been identified for 20 years into a reality.

  7. Most people would assume that a new pool is for the swimming community. That is not the case, it would be a Leisure Centre for the whole community!

  8. Long term project… this has been on councils radar since the 90s. They have plans to build a velodrome and a athletics track. What percentage of Tamworth and surround would use a velodrome? Would schools run a learn to ride program? Would schools hold ride and survive classes there? Would parents take their kids there to learn to ride a bike for the first time? Would people use it for rehab for injuries? Would families all meet there for a afternoon at the velodrome on hot afternoon? Would the elderly use it for exercise? Is cycling the number 1 participation sport in Australia? A all year round aquatic centre would better serve the people of Tamworth and surrounds for years to come, it would be draw card for a number of sports and compliment the already existing sporting facilitates out at the sporting precinct . Its time that council starts to take this project seriously and looks at the long term benefits for Tamworth.
