MARIAH WILLIAMS LEADS JILLAROOS TO BRONZE IN CHILE

Hunter hockey player Mariah Williams has led Australia to a bronze medal at the Junior World Cup in South America, as the Jillaroos beat Spain in a penalty shootout.
The Europeans started well, establishing a one-nil lead in the sixth minute from a penalty corner.
The Aussies responded just before halftime – Greta Hayes and Laura Gray combining to make it one-all.
With the scores still locked at fulltime, Williams – the team captain – stepped up to score the Jillaroos’ first goal in the shootout.
Goalkeeper Aleisha Power then made several crucial saves, to see Australia win its first medal at the event in 15 years.
