PILOT’S SENTENCE UPGRADED ON APPEAL
The sentence of a north coast pilot, convicted of reckless flying, has been upgraded on appeal.
John Patrick Crumpton was initially handed a 15-month suspended sentence for causing a 2014 crash, which killed an 11-year-old Murwillumbah girl.
However the Court of Criminal Appeal deemed that “manifestly inadequate”, during a hearing in Sydney yesterday.
It has now imposed a lengthier sentence of two years and nine months, to be served in the community.
