COUNCIL TO MOVE TO CONSIDER REZONING RAIL LINE
Newcastle Council is set to start considering moves this week to rezone the city’s rail corridor, to make way for development.
The state government’s current plan for the stretch includes a web of walkways and greenery near Newcastle Station, and development east of Wolfe Street.
But any changes to the local environment plan would have to be approved by the council, and the land would need to be rezoned.
Council will meet on Tuesday night, and is expected to request an environmental report from the transport department.
