RECOVERED BODY BELIEVED TO BE THAT OF LARNOOK FLOOD VICTIM

Police divers have recovered the body of a 72-year-old man, swept away in flood waters on the Far North Coast earlier this week.

On Wednesday afternoon, emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle trapped in flood water in Leycester Creek on Martin Road, Larnook, near Kyogle.

Witnesses say that the driver escaped the vehicle and hold onto a nearby tree before being swept downstream.

Initial searches for the man by police, the SES and Westpac Rescue Helicopter were unsuccessful.

Further searches led to the discovery of a body shortly after 9am this morning in Leycester Creek, Larnook.

The body is yet to be formally identified, but it’s believed to be that of a 72-year-old man.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
