SUSPICIOUS FIRE DESTROYS MOTORBIKES AT GOLD COAST SHOP

Motorbikes at a Gold Coast business have been destroyed in a suspicious fire overnight.

A passing police patrol noticed smoke pouring from Bike Sales Qld, on Lawrence Drive in Nerang, about 11.15pm.

Ten fire trucks were called into fight the fire at the used motorcycle shop, with a large amount of petrol fuelling the blaze.

The Nerang shop was extensively damaged.

“This is a very large fire, and it’s taken quite a deal of resources from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), we have approximately 10 fire appliances, specialist appliances from Brisbane, also aerial appliances from Surfers Paradise and surrounding areas,”  QFES Inspector Chris Robinson said.

A large number of motorbikes were destroyed and the shop has been extensively damaged.

Once the building is deemed safe to enter, investigators will work to establish the cause of the blaze.

Investigators are treating the fire as suspicious.

They are treating the fire as suspicious, and will investigate whether any petrol may have been deliberately used as an accelerant.

Police have urged any witnesses to come forward.
