The International Transport Workers’ Federation says a bulk carrier, which docked in Newcastle yesterday, raises national security concerns.
A Chinese national died on board the ‘Yangtze Oasis’ last week.
The matter was investigated by New South Wales Police before being referred to the coroner.
The ITF says it’s exhausted all options to identify the owners of the ship, finding only a “sophisticated network of front companies”.
It’s calling on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to investigate the ship immediately, before it completes loading Australian cargo.
