A man has been charged following an assault which left another man critically injured in Lismore.
About 1am on Sunday, a 37-year-old man at a home in Bright Street was awoken by the sound of voices and smashing bottles.
The man went outside and confronted four men.
It is alleged one of the men punched the 37-year-old knocking him backwards, hitting his head on a cement driveway.
Shortly after, police arrested a 38-year-old man in Clarice Street. He was charged with grevious bodily harm with intent and refused bail.
The injured man remains in a critical condition.
