COUNCIL ASKS FOR NO ‘LOVE LOCKS’ ON ANZAC MEMORIAL WALK

Newcastle Council has asked that people don’t place so-called ‘love locks’ or any other items along the Anzac Walk, to respect its status as a memorial.

The stance has gone down well with many locals.

“It’s a bit of a gimmick putting locks on to show that you love someone, that’s really nice, but it’s not really what this bridge is about.”
“Get the bolt cutters, cut it off, I’ll do it right now.”

Council has already removed locks, and says it will continue to do so.

  1. What’s disrespectful building a cliffside walkway as a tourist attraction and justifying it to the community as an Anzac memorial.. It’s as bad as the removal of the railway and the rest of the useless “development” happening in our city. There are memorials in parks in every suburb that get urinated on and vandalised, yet no body blinks an eyelid.. But putting a love lock on a bridge in a beautiful spot is disrespectful?

  2. They will be kept at Boston Borough Council’s headquarters in the town for 21 days if anyone wants to claim them back. Are love locks on bridges romantic or a menace?
