A four-year-old girl and her stepfather, who suffered smoke inhalation during a house fire at Mayfield over the weekend, remain in John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The fire started in the back of the home at about 3:30 on Sunday morning.
The stepfather went back in to get the little girl, after four others who were also inside had escaped.
Police say the blaze was caused by a heater for a water bed.
