HUNDREDS TURN OUT FOR RAIL LINE MEETING

Around 200 pro rail line supporters turned out at Newcastle City Hall last night in a meeting to protect the line into the city.

The meeting was organised by the Hunter Concerned Citizens Group to launch its “keep the Hunter on track campaign.”

Speakers included Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes, Save our Rail’s Joan Dawson and Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp, who heatedly told the meeting, ‘it’s time for for Mike baird and Gladys Berejiklian to listen to the people of Newcastle and stop this ridiculous plan.”

The meeting also heard from commuters in the Hunter Valley affected by the line’s truncation. (SEE ATTACHED VIDEO)

A collection was also taken up for Save Our Rail in its legal battle for the line’s retention.

There were apologies from Mike Baird, Planning Minister Pru Goward and Transport Minister and Minister for the Hunter Gladys Berejiklian. The Transport Minister is in Newcastle today to announce details of an upgrade to Broadmeadow railway station.
