WEATHER UPDATE: WILD WEATHER FOR THE HUNTER

Newcastle and the Central Coast has experienced a wild 24 hour period thanks to a small but intense low pressure cell forming just offshore dumping large amounts of rain, up to 250mm at Paterson in the Hunter with gale force winds.

Houses were flooded at Carrington and the Paterson/Williams Rivers reached moderate flood levels peaking this evening.

The system is weakening now but has wrapped right around its centre driving rain as far inland as Tamworth while triggering storms across the Northern Ranges, North Coast and SE QLD.

The low will pull away from the coast tomorrow and conditions will ease further with most of the wet weather clearing by the afternoon. The large swell will continue.

A fine couple of days is expected before another rain event developd at the end of the week.
