  1. i can relate to this. after 42 years as a paramedic i have seen so much death and seriously injured people and how it affects a lot of people. it is a chain reaction that not only affects the paramedics who have to pick battered people or bodies, just think the para goes to a serious prang , police, firies are scene, patient transported to hosptal, there we have nurses dr.’s trying their best to save a life, then patient’s family are affected as well. the para goes home after a hard day’s at work and sometimes his family is in the firing line just so he/she can “cut loose” a lot of these incidents are through stupidy, domestic violence, shootings, suicde, drug abuse etc. yes it does affect you over time. paramedics did not have counseling in the “early” days. you just had to “man up”. i had to leave the job i loved because of PTDS. what tipped me over the edge was horror 6 months, my life and family were threatened by a drunken idiot, 2 shootings, 2 fatal car crashes, 3 suicides and to top it off twins still born. how did i cope? not very well i noticed a decline in my patient treatment and making silly mistakes. i said to myself the public deserves better. so off to my GP, he said retire or will retire you. yes, there is a lot pressure on todays paramedics. hope they don’t go through what some of us has been through. it is a tough, thankless job which i would not have changed for the world. yes i saw the tragic side of life but i also think of the many lives i have saved over the years. ( hey paul lobb would love to catch up one day soon give me a ring if you wish 40286494)
