STATE GOVT WON’T FUND COAL STUDY

Landholders at Caroona continue to block the entrance of a property earmarked for test drilling by BHP Billiton.

While the picket line thinned overnight, a hard core of protestors still stood its ground.

The group has made national headlines in its fight to stop BHP Billiton from drilling for coal, calling on the state government to fund an independent water study.

The Minister for Natural Resources, Ian Macdonald, today refused to fund the study.

Mr Macdonald said he believes environmental information to be provided by BHP Billton will be rigorous.
